We always include our animals in celebrations. On Christmas they get presents, which they unwrap themselves. On Thanksgiving, they get a little piece of turkey. We celebrate their birthdays with them every year. Easter? Rabbit ears!
For Halloween? Though we've never really bought any costumes, we have looked at them, and we often put a little orange t-shirt on them if we can find it. It's the most adorable thing to see them running about in the autumn leaves outside, all dressed in orange, all as cute as buttons as we take them on their halloween walk. In the future I would like to dress them up as spiders and having us all walk around in costume, but for now the orange shirts will do!
Don't forget cuddling up in the bed, clinging onto your dogs as you watch a horror movie! It's fun for them too! The way they jump up when you scream and wag their tails, or almost play their own trick on you, barking at the door just after you finished watching some gruesome show on the television. Taking the time between commercials to pet them all up and maybe even play with them to the Monster Mash music.
We recently started making our own dog treats, thanks to online recipes. Our dogs seem to love the peanut butter flavors as they have just always loved peanut butter since they were little puppies. What's fun to do though, is cook up a batch of dog cookies and cut them into different shapes. A black cat, a witch, a broom, a bat. Then just popping them into the oven, cool 'em off, and maybe after that spooooooky Halloween walk you can come in and make them perform a few tricks for their treat. They certainly seem to have more fun biting into them, and it sure brings you a lot more Halloween spirit into your household, not to mention not feeling guilty celebrating without them!
