Once a criminal, always a criminal

by missbee

Once a criminal always a criminal? I don't think that statement is true in all cases. It depends on the personality of the person who committed the crime. There are circumstances that may put people in situation where they see no way out and commit a crime. It may be something they have never done and will never do again. As a teen I was out with my friend and we decided to steal some make up. I did it that one time and never again.

There are people who are mentally unstable and commit crimes repeatedly. In their mind they are not doing anything wrong or they just can not control the urge. Serial killers that kill for no reason and with no remorse will not stop doing it because they get caught. Most of them will admit that if they are let out of prison they will kill again. In that case the statement of once a criminal always a criminal is true.

People commit crimes for money. There are cases where someone can find themselves in a hard financial situation and they see no other alternative than to do something illegal to get some quick money then never do it again. In other cases greed takes over and the person will not stop because it the allure of the easy money is too hard to resist. It becomes a lifestyle, to them the amount of easy money is worth the risk.

How about the crime of passion? Those people may kill or hurt someone due to extreme uncontrollable anger or maybe a fight that went too far. Most of those people that get in those situations will probably never do that again. It is not in their character to do that, it was just a temporary loss of control.

So the truth is that just because some one commits a crime once it doesn't make them a criminal for life. I have seen both sides in people that I personally know. Some got caught up in the criminal lifestyles others did it once and never did it again. It all depends on the individual's personality.
