Today there is so much information about exercise out there it can all be overwhelming for the average person. But if you're overweight then it's even harder. On the one hand you want to get in shape, but on the other you may be embarrassed to join a gym or an exercise class. I mean if you weren't self-conscious about your appearance then you probably wouldn't be very concerned about exercising. But don't despair! Here are some tips you can follow to help get that perfect body without the unneeded extra stress.
Let's start with what you can do at home. You may not have a lot of money to spend, or you may be planning to move on to a gym after you lose some weight. So for now we'll look at the cheaper side of exercise. To get started there is always the option of at-home cardio. You don't even need a set of weights for this. Take up a new hobby like walking, jogging, swimming, just about anything that you feel comfortable with. Find a friend or partner to join in with you and motivate each other not to quit. The best part about this is you can workout at your own home inside, or even outside in some places.
If you need a bit more of a push, or really have no idea where to start, try hiring a personal trainer. This way they will work with you to meet your specific goals. A good trainer will be able to help you without making you feel uncomfortable. Then you won't feel as if everyone is watching you.
Finally, if none of these options sound good to you, maybe it is time to take it to the gym. But you don't have to show up in shame! Call ahead and ask if they have "size-friendly" equipment. If one sounds like a good fit, feel free to check it out. Your first day just go to observe. See if you would feel comfortable in that setting. If not, don't sweat it. There are plenty more gyms in the world. Ask some of your friends for recommendations.
Last but not least, if you've exhausted all your options try talking to a local health club or searching online. You might come across an idea you've never thought of before. Even your doctor might be able to recommend something. Before you know it you'll be racing through your exercises and leaving everyone else in the dust.
