The randomness of luck

Randomness and luck...simply words we use when we find ourselves at a loss for explanation. I find that randomness is key to living a great life. I know it sounds weird, haphazard, maybe scary. I know, I am a recovering control freak. I discovered that I am not in control of the world and discovering that made an interesting change in my life. It made me feel more free than I ever had before.

So, now, I allow my life to be random. I try my best to go with the flow. People come and go, things come and go, days come and go. I try my best everyday. Sometimes the outcome is great, sometimes just kind of interesting, sometimes downright frightening, but I'm still alive.

By allowing my life to be random (while still, of course, accomplishing what is required each day) I am allowing myself to stumble onto whatever "lucky" moment might be in store for me that day. Is it truly luck? I don't know. I think a lot of life is really stimulating and cool and wonderous and fascinating, and that is because I allow myself to see randomness in action. So, am I lucky to have been through the ringer and come out optimistic? Or is it a choice of perception? Difficult to say.
Better to just be and let randomness happen and see how I react.

I do believe that, if you feel you are an unlucky person, you might want to start to try to focus on all the great stuff that exists in your life. Don't tell me nothing good ever happens to you. It is not true. Something made you laugh once this week, focus on that. The more great random stuff you allow yourself to see and love, the more great random stuff will happen to you! Or, was it there all along? Better not to focus on how and when and where. Just be, just laugh, just love, and just show a little gratitude!

Do you feel lucky yet? I do. I feel lucky to live in a beautiful town that is currently covered in snow. I feel lucky to have great pets that meet me at the door each day. I feel lucky to have a job that I like. I feel lucky to be upright. I feel lucky to have made a decision to care for my body. I feel lucky to have great parents. I actually feel lucky that I have not yet had success in dating...because I have learned so much! I even feel lucky to have had the time I did with my ex husband, though it took a few years to feel that way. I feel lucky to have watched my sister go through annorexia, because I know I cannot do that to myself and my family. I feel lucky to have 4 neices and a nephew, because my parents can't say they don't have grandchildren, it lets me off the hook!

Life is random. Sometimes life is hard and unfair. The trouble is the rough spots stick out in our minds more than the great parts, and that is what we have to change in our minds in order to feel more lucky.

Remember all the good stuff and you will feel like a lucky person, even if television tells you you're not a lucky person. What do they know?
