Testimonies: What is your favorite animal and why

My favorite animal... a long time ago, I would probably tell you my favorite animal was a giraffe or a lion, cheetah, bear. All of those exotic animals. They were big, exciting, and bright. Loud and powerful. For a while I liked manatees, whale sharks, and just sharks in general. Whenever I would see a picture of one, if we were in a store or if they were in a book or on a television, I would stop in my tracks and just look at/watch them.

After a while I transitioned from all of those to cats and dogs. They were furry, cuddly, and cute. I could actually hold one. They were around the neighborhood! I think it be pretty impossible to find a whale shark near the lake or a giraffe hanging out in the back yard. Nah, I was into the attainable animals. My dad's girlfriend had cats, and we had dogs. It was a pretty good deal, being able to see both of my favorite animals.

Then my mind switched again. Cats were not for me. I liked kittens, they were cute like a puppy, but I didn't like the full grown cats as much as I liked adult dogs. The ones I met seemed distant and cold. They would curl up on your lap and behind you on the couch, but you felt used! Why didn't you come see me yesterday? Or the day before that when those other people were around? Did I crinkle the cat treats by accident and you want one? Now, don't get me wrong, I do not hate cats and I still find them cute. If it was offered before I was introduced to dogs, maybe I would have accepted a cat into my house, and actually bonded with my own for once.

Anyhow, I know my favorite animal now and it is sticking with dogs. They seemed to have a similar presence to lions, but loyal, and when I first really understood a dog, the doors of happiness opened up. They are kind, considerate, goofy, sloppy, sturdy, adorable, fun loving, approval seekers. I've centered my world around them. I spend half my day giving them the love they need, their food, water, walks, runs, tug-o-wars, everything. They keep you busy and you start seeing life through their eyes.

Am I interested in the other animals still? Yes, all of them! Every single one! I just now have a mutual loyalty with my doggies, and I love it!
