Well that is a good question. But is it really a question, not much wrong with the d20 system all it really did was changed some of the dice rolls. Yes i know what am i talking about. Well nothing because the only thing they did was make some of the actions in the game more complicated. For about 3 years i have been part of or listening to arguments about sudden parts of the actions of the game. Some one reads the rules and misinterprets them and then the GM has to stop game play and deal with that player who has a rules problem. Well my husband has been playing D and D sense chain mail he was one of the testers for the game.
It took him quite a wail to get me into playing the game because i was not a gamer period. But our oldest wanted to play and he ask me to help him and this turned me on to the game. So sense my son was 3 we have been playing D and D. We went through all the changes of advance and 2.0 and 3.0 and now 3.5 and soon to be 4.0 It has not been easy because every-time some one changes the rules there are arguments about it. How much fantasy can there be in a table top roll playing game should there be some reality in it also to make it more of an adventure.? It seems to me that the more they change the more the GM has to deal with rather then letting the players figure it out. I always saw the game as a puzzle and you had to work together to figure out how to survive and make it true another day of the campaign. To earn that exp. and gold your hauling around all over the place till you can get it to a safe place and spend it on use less fun stuff.lol Well its not useless you hope.
My oldest is now 30 and loves roll playing games and video games and computer games. It has helped him get threw some hard times and deal with his life in general. His younger brother also plays but has had to put that on hold because he has his hands-full with a set of twins.
But in general they both love the the d20 system and would love it if they would stop messing with the rules and adding stupid races that make it hard for a good player to play the game when you got the new guy out there running amok with some race that doesn't need the rest of the party to get to the end of the story.
So in general all i can say is keep it simple and make it fun again if your going to change anything do that.
