Internet writer's guide to marketing your Helium articles on the web

Writing is a pleasure and marketing your writing may seem like a chore. But, your success as an Internet writer, and your earnings at Helium, can be enhanced by learning more about how to get the word out about you and your articles. This article tells you how to bring more link love to your articles and money to your pocket. First you need to shift your self-perception from writer to marketer.

There are two important ways to market your writing on the web: Create links from other Internet sites to your Helium articles, and use social networking and bookmarking options energetically as a community (the Digg, Del.icio.us, etc., tags you see at the end of your Helium articles).

Make the most of your links:

Incoming links from other Internet venues into your Helium articles are the gold here. Linking to Helium's homepage is not as effective as linking to your About Me page; and this is not as effective as linking to your specific articles.

I played with a free web tool that shows what search engine spiders see. When I plugged in my About Me page URL, I saw only 27 links. When I plugged in one specific article, the tool showed 74 links. (See link below.)

The value of links varies substantially, depending on where you link from.

Getting your articles known and recommended by authoritative sites on the web wins the golden globe for best links. Links that come from .edu or .org domains, sites known for specialty on given topics and those with high Google page rank provide the most effective link sources.

Network with .org organizations and educational institutions. Think "authoritative" source, and make inquiry to get your work known by sites recognized on the web. Think of peers connected with universities and non-profit organizations. Think of organizations who care about the topics you write about, and get yourself known.

Linking related content between sites also helps. If the focus of the site you link from mirrors the content in your Helium article, you can create a top-rate link. For example, if you participate in an organic gardening website, placing links there to your Helium articles about organic gardening can be highly effective. Think link as you roam around the web. You'll be surprised at the opportunities that emerge in your Internet travels.

How to use Helium's social networking and bookmarking icons:
