Many people find a time in their lives when they need to get fit, change their body shape, find the encouragement, support and motivation to make a change. So people often decide to join a gym, their they get an induction and then are left to it without the help and support they need. So people often decide to choose to use a personal trainer, so I feel it is best to help identify the difference between a gym and a personal trainer. This will give you ideas of what to look for and then we can look for the personality and experience that would help you choose the best personal trainer for you.
In a gym you don't get monitored, i.e weight, fitness level, which leads to the question are you making progress?, a personal trainer would look to carry out assessment every 6-8 weeks to analyze your progress, this will help to identify if your making progress and help identify any changes that need to be made. When you go to the gym you are left on your own without help to decide when you need to make activities harder, which will make the body change and adapt. If this doesn't happen then your session in the gym will become the same as you sitting on the sofa at home. A personal trainer will monitor your progress and up weights and push you in cardio activities to make progress.
A personal training session can take place in the gym at home or even out doors, it had the ability to change from session to session where as the gym is the same odd venue and equipment in each session. So your looking for something different which won't get boring, by having the ability to change at each session.
So when it comes to choosing a personal trainer, always meeting for a free consultation is a key point. This allows you the chance to meet face to face and see if you get on well together, if you don't get on you can't work together the friction cause will affect the sessions. It also shows that the personal trainer care about the client. A personal trainer is rated on results they get with clients, so they may decide your not read for working with a personal trainer, because your not ready to make the changes you need to your life. Qualifications and professional bodies are very important, make sure you see them, so you know they are qualified and can help make your changes happen, other wise you may play lots of money out for nothing and end up having serious health problems due to poor exercise pre-scription. Ask them about help and support they can give you, can you call them or email them for support when you don't see them and are struggling to keep focused. Would they offer you discounts for pre-payment or block bookings on sessions? If you live a long way away from the trainer, and they start working closer with someone else near you would they reduce fees to pay for their travel expenses.
