How technology promotes atheism and agnosticism

by Pope

Oh yay! Another stereotype to write about. Who in God's name came up with this? So, I guess by your logic, most the jocks are Christians, right? So does that make the emos Buddhist? Or the preps Jewish? What the heck does it mean to be a "geek" anyway? Does it mean a kid that plays videogames a bunch, and reads all the time, or gets good grades? Or does being a jock mean that you're stupid, play every sport known to man and get the clueless blonde chick? And obviously emo just means that you listen to As I Lay Dying, cut yourself, wear skinny jeans, have nothing but black in your wardrobe, have crazy hair do's, and don't care about anything. Yup, no way around it, this is the only possible way things could ever be.

Whoever made up those fake stereotypes needs to be shot, because they really don't exist. Take me (a rather boring subject, I know) for example: I have a relatively emo hair cut (see my About Me picture, if you feel just that obligated), being that it's straight, long and covers one of my eyes from time to time. I wear black occasionally, but most my clothing is normal, not skin tight but not baggy at all. I have never had anything less than a 4.0 GPA and I love a good book. And yes, I play videogames. I'm also a Cross Country and Track runner. And I'm a happy person. And I'm Catholic.

Huh. I kinda broke all the rules of every stereotype listed, it would seem. Why is it that most "Geeks" are atheist? That's just not true. About 90% of the people I know are Christian, 9% are either Atheist or I just don't know what they are, and 1% is Jewish (that's you, Brooke), and no one falls into a stereotype, since they don't exist. And since the stereotypes don't even exist, then I guess geeks can't be atheists. To be a geek is an opinion. I'm sure lots of people think I'm a geek, mostly because a lot of people don't get my humor (or lack of humor) and I get good grades (miraculously). Then again, I may think someone is a "geek" because they play WoW all day and have never talked to a girl other than to ask for a pencil. That's more what I call a "loser", but whatever. The point is that the geek/loser is unfortunate no matter what. I don't think a "geek" is an atheist because he's a geek, it's just what he/she believes, and they just happen to be a bit of a loser/geek. And just because someone is an atheist, does it make them a geek? No. You'll notice that what someone does reflects a lot on their beliefs. This is just a speculation of mine, don't take it as hard fact.

In my experience, most soldiers, teachers, firefighters, cops, pilots, and doctors are Christian.

Most bankers, financial aides, rich people, actresses and directors (again, you Brooke) are Jewish.

Most Buddhist monks happen to be Buddhist.

Most Irish people are Catholic.

Most people that don't like the Irish are Protestant.

Most French people don't know what the hell is going on.

And most computer programmers, videogame designers, hackers, crazy rich computer crazy people, and protesters are Atheists.

And Tom Cruise is a scientologist.

Now, obviously, I'm not speaking for everyone here (except for Tom Cruise), in fact it's mostly a joke that's just kind of true. Figured I might as well try to get someone laughing before the end of the day, but I'm sure I just managed to offend someone. For whoever that may be, my apologies.

Anyway, the answer to the question of the article is that geeks don't exist, there are just atheists that could be considered "Geeks".

There. Done. I can finally go to bed.
