The only way that I feel Christians should celebrate Halloween is if they celebrate it for what it is. Halloween is now considered just a day for dressing up and scaring people. Nobody thinks of it as the day that we are to celebrate the day of the saints. Without them we would not have this holiday. We so often forget the reason for each season and we take each holiday for granted and blow it out of proportion. Christians are to believe in Christ and what he did for us to have life. When we dress up in scary costumes and just go around asking for candy do we remember why God was alive once. He was alive to help us be able to have a life where we are forgiven for our sins and the purpose of the All Saints Day was when God had people burn candles in their house and place skull heads out to ward off the evil. But do people remember that is why we have them in stores to purchase these days or do they think they are only there to decorate our house and our yards?
I believe in giving my children the facts of our history and not what we want it to mean these days. If we don't grow up on the basis of why we have these holidays that by time our kids have kids everything in this world will be forgotten. Their kids will just think that it is on the calendar so that is why we celebrate it.
I don't celebrate Halloween and I don't want my children to but my mother buys them costumes but I take my kids to about 4 houses and we come home and take pictures and take them off. I don't make a big deal of it. I don't decorate for it. I have a pumpkin picture up and that is it. I don't want my kids to make a big deal of it when they grow up either, That is why I am trying to teach them everything that they need to know about it right now. If they want to celebrate it then I guess they will I just hope that they do for the right reasons. They will someday have kids of their own and I want them to be able to tell them the beginning of each reason for each season and get them to continue on with the traditions.
