Tips for renting a moving van

If you have a little time to plan, you can save big money on your next move. These methods are certainly not for everyone, but for those on a budget and the luxury of moving when the moving is good, these tips can save you big money.

If you have a good driving record, you can start by contacting your local RV dealers and asking them if they have any Motor Homes that need to be transported in the direction you wish to travel. This option is normally for those who are traveling light and do not have their own car to drive. You might even pick up a few extra dollars as the standard rate for transporting an RV usually starts at about a dollar a mile.

For those needing a moving truck or a trailer to haul behind your car, you might be better off in the long run purchasing and then reselling a used truck or trailer for your move. With so many sites like EBay offering so many different vehicles to choose from, you will likely loose nothing in the process of buying and selling a truck or trailer. This option is especially good for those of you moving from rural America to the big city. Once you arrive at your destination and no longer need the vehicle, place an add in the paper and you will almost certainly be able to sell it for more money than you paid. Do not register the new vehicle, get temporary tags to transport to a new location. Even if you loose a little money it will be far less than the money you would have otherwise spent on a rental.

Many of you may find that a trailer in the driveway of your new home makes for a great extra storage area and will decide not to sell. If you are going to try this option you must find a vehicle that is roadworthy and does not need any work before making your move.

Like we said, this is not for everyone, but for many of you it is a great way to beat the high costs of renting a moving van or trailer.
