Why Bush should be impeached: Adding up the costs in Iraq

The impeachment of George, Dick, and the other criminals running this government would be a good start. After that, criminal charges need to be filed against all of them and they need to go to jail for the rest of their lives. My own feeling is that the whole lot of them need to lose their citizenship and be kicked out of this country forever.

Starting with Iraq, it really doesn't matter whether Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction or even if he threatened to use them against us. Neither of these is true and never was and the Bush administration knew that. The plan to attack Iraq was put in motion before Bush/Cheney were even in office. The only thing that is relevant here is that it is a war crime, by definition, to attack a country that has not first attacked you. That was determined in the Nazi trials at Nuremberg.

Second, it is unconstitutional to go to war without a declaration of war from congress. Congress did not declare war, making this war unconstitutional. Therefore, none of the lies told to justify this "war" are relevant even if they were true.

What we have in Iraq is the unprovoked invasion and occupation of a sovereign nation. Aside from the war crime of the invasion itself, the destruction of Iraq and the killing of a million or more of its people, constitute crimes against humanity.

Add to that the illegal incarceration and torture of thousands of mostly innocent civilians. Torture is against military law, the Geneva Convention, and other international treaties.

Bush vowed to protect and defend the constitution of the United States. It would take a book (and several have been written) to list all of the ways in which Bush has broken that vow. Each of those instances would be enough for impeachment.

Bush has broken the law against wiretapping without a warrant numerous times and even admitted to it. Each of those instances is punishable by prison time and fines. Why is an admitted criminal still in office?

Bush has broken his constitutional vow by ignoring one of the most important aspects of our democracy, the balance of powers between the president, congress, and the judiciary. Bush has taken on dictatorial powers, all in the name of fighting terrorism.

The costs of Iraq, and the costs of the Bush administration as a whole, are very nearly incalculable. Our descendants will be paying those costs for decades at least.

A nation has been destroyed, with roughly a million dead, two million having left the country, and two million as refugees
