I believe that television in moderation can be a helpful tool in assisting in the learning development of a child as well as entertaining them so that the mom and dad can have time to do other much needed activities such as cooking, cleaning, recreation, computer work and other activities that they would not have time for if they were constantly having to look after their children.

There are many shows that I would not want my children to watch and you do have to be aware of the shows that they do watch, but there are several good cable channels and network programs that offer educational and entertaining programming. One good channel is Nickelodeon which offers the favorite of kids everywhere, 'Sponge Bob Square Pants' and another program, 'Zoey 101' which features Britany's little sister who just recently announced she was pregnant....ok, maybe that one isn't a good one to watch anymore, but others can be. There is also the Discovery channel which offers entertaining and informative selections to broaden a child's horizons. They can watch and learn about space exploration, sharks, volcanic explosions and many other creations of nature. Then there is the fascinating Animal Planet where a child can learn about mysterious animals that may not exist anywhere near their home, but that they may some day see in a zoo and recognize the animal as being one they initially saw on the Animal Planet television show.

I am not saying that T.V should replace reading or doing games, or even listening to music, but it can be a way to entertain children make them think and enable them to make new and exciting discoveries. Just be careful as to how much t.v your child or children are watching, which shows they are watching of course which channels hey watch. A child will eventually become an adult and be exposed to all the bad the world has to offer, but a closely watched child can benefit from moderate television watching.
