Having someone that is abusive in your life can be very frightening, whether it be a spouse, a family member or a colleague. No matter who is abusing you, you have to step up and stop it. The first person that should do something to stop the abuse should be you. Others can not help you if they do not know the abuse is going on.
There are different types of abuse that a boss can put you through; physical, sexual, and verbal. All these are just as bad as the other, and you should not have to put up with any of them. You should never stay in a job where your boss abuses you, it will never end well for you if you don't do something about it. The first time your boss hits you, touches you inappropriately, or viciously screams at you, report the incident immediately. Don't tell yourself it won't happen again, or that you'll just avoid them as much as possible. This will not work out for you, the only way to stop it is to report it, no second chances, no apologies. Depending on the nature of the attack you need to either report your boss to the police, or someone within the company who can help you. If it is a physical or sexual assault, there is no question, it needs to be immediately reported to the police and the company. If it is a verbal abuse, depending on the extent of its violence, it should be reported to the company. They can do whatever they have to, to solve the problem; by either firing them, getting you away from them, or talking to them.
I know that for some people, when they are abused by another, they are scared of them, and usually too frightened to report the abuser. They feel threatened and vulnerable, but this should never get in the way of doing the right thing. If need be, you can get the appropriate protection. But if you can not talk yourself into reporting an abusive boss just for you, think about all the other people he may be abusing. Other people may be just as scared as you to report them; but someone has to. An abusive person needs to be stopped before his abuse turns more violent, or even deadly. You always have to assume that if you are abused by your boss, he is doing it to other people, and that no one else is reporting them. You have to step up and report them, for your sake and for everyone else's sake.
There is no excuse for one person to abuse another. It is an intolerable act, and should always be reported and stopped before it can become worse and more intense.
