Misty mountains, whispering pines, glorious sunsets and an accent that will make your head spin! That's my choice, Northeast Tennessee!
My husband and I lived most of our lives in a small city in upstate New York. In 1993 we relocated to Southeast coastal Florida, for employment and to escape WINTER! Florida was fine, jobs were good! Then came hurricanes Jeanne and Frances, two weeks apart! I decided after the destruction I witnessed, and being in 90 plus heat for two weeks with no electricity, it was time to GO! Not to mention homeowners and windstorm insurances jumped about 300%!
I began to research different areas online. After weeks of blurry eyed surfing I went to a map of the United States. I didn't want to go back as far North as New York, so maybe someplace in between. Right there it was! Just about half way between Florida and New York, Tennessee! Visited Realtor.com and many other sites. One day on Realtor.com I saw a nice , simple, home. It was a doublewide on a foundation, on nearly an acre. At that time listed at $79,000 I believe. I went back and looked at it several times, then one day it was gone. Oh well, I guess it was sold.
Two weeks later searching For Sale By Owner sites, there it was! The doublewide! It was now $49,000! My husband said, what the heck, e-mail the owner. So, I did! He wrote back, sent us a video and photos. It looked GREAT! He also sent us the name of a bank contact in Tennessee. We called the bank, faxed a ton of paperwork, and in 3 days we owned a home in Tennessee! Dang! We had not yet even listed our small Florida home for sale yet!
Turns out a friend of a friend wanted to buy our home, to "flip" it! Great! Sold "as is".
My husband traveled to Tennessee for the closing, and I waited by the phone to hear from him. What if it was a total wreck! When he called he was very happy, and told me it was perfect.
One month later we drove our U-HAUL to our new mountain home! I cried when I saw it! Surrounded by pines and Poplars, with an amazing mountain view! The first night deer came by, and owls greeted us in the moonlight! No sirens, no horns blowing, no squealing brakes! The city was far away! We do have the occasional visit from a rather large Brown Bear, but he only eats from the bird feeder!
We have found true peace in the mountains of Northeast Tennessee.
What a Blessing!
