HANG ME OUT TO DRY
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Tell me how I can love somebody
When I cannot love myself,
Sex, drugs kill my brain
Yet my heart still beats in wealth.

A poor lad me who sold his soul
To the Devil upon his shoulder,
Mortality is no wonder cream
When the mirror shows me older.

Too many hearts I've broken
Yet pieces of everyone,
Tick away inside my heart
A love lost pendulum.

Model bodies and pretty faces
A slide show in my head,
Cocktail fantasies of booze and sex
Have had me nearly dead.

Just like dirty washing
To clean me how they try,
From fast spin they pull me out
And hang me out to dry.

Maybe one day I will master
Of being happy instead of sad,
Let the mask fall from my face
And contemplate all I had.

A million hearts have touched me
A million arms embraced,
A million tears have fallen
From the millions I have faced.

I look into the mirror
See the child and not the man,
One who gets lonely,
One who gets scared
Not knowing who I am.

Lost am I in this my world
But one I've made myself,
Following the footsteps of many
Where love drugs and wealth,

Has become a poison
That runs right through my veins,
But I cannot point the finger
For there is no one else to blame.

Will this nightmare never end?
With want I have to try,
To save the man inside of me
So hang me out to dry.
