My top 10 comeback yearnings

Looking forward to 2008

In examining the year that was in 2007, we find that it really wasn't all that different from 2006. There were positives and negatives in both years, yet both left us longing for more. Looking forward to 2008, here are the top ten yearnings for the year.

1. A return to an appreciation of the intelligent. As we examine the bulk of our news, especially in entertainment, we find that the unintelligent and uninformed continue to be lead stories. Our entertainers, from rap artists speaking an unintelligible language, to Larry the Cable Guy doing nearly the same, our idols have become the village idiots. A global fascination with the downfall of Britney Spears has dominated the news for almost an entire year. Here's to hoping coverage in 2008 will focus on man's accomplishments instead of his failures.

2. Smokers getting over themselves. A number of US states have banned smoking in public places and the smokers have been very vocal about their rights being violated. Where were these same concerns about rights when non-smokers were being subject to second hand smoke filled air? Yes Mr. Smoker, you absolutely do have the right to smoke. You do not, however, have the right to infringe upon others rights to breathe smoke free air.
3. Family dinners. It wasn't so long ago that an entire family would sit down and enjoy that day's last meal together. Lately, it seems that everyone's individual priorities take precedence over togetherness. While this one point cannot be the sole cause in the deterioration of the nuclear family, it certainly played its part. Let's hope more families see the value in sharing a meal, a conversation, and thoughts.
4. Pride in personal appearance. Since when did we assume that others wanted to see our fat rolls, tattoos, bra straps, torn clothing, and enough jewelry stuck through our bodies to set of metal detectors? The human body may be beautiful, but not all of us take such proper care of it that it should be displayed like art work. Cover us, get some decorum, and exercise. This way, if we have to look at you, hopefully only at the beach, at least the sight won't make us sick.
5. Realization that others are not impress by your cell phone. Twenty years ago, there may have been some status associated with the ability to talk on a cordless phone. That era is long gone, having been replaced by annoyance. No one really wants to hear another's phone call when shopping at the supermarket. Unfortunately,
