Knowing yourself through your dreams

A friend of mine made the mistake the other day of telling me his dream. I say it was a mistake because it revealed more about himself than he cared for me to know. He didn't believe as I do that dreams tell you more about yourself than a roomful of psycho analysts could. Perhaps he does now though.

He told me the dream: He was a forest ranger in a remote and vast wood stationed alone and he had to call in sick a few times to his boss who happened to be his wife. He said they weren't married in the dream. A replacement came to help him watch out for forest fires as this was his most pressing duty and he then started a love affair with that person. Jaime Presley, the hot little tart on the TV show My Name Is Earl was the woman. In the dream the boss found out about the liaison and had a problem with it.

"So, why should she have a problem with it being we weren't married. She was just my boss." my friend asked all annoyed.

"Well, while you were going at it like rabbits, who was watching out for forest fires?" I countered pointedly. Oh, yeah, he acknowledged I had a point. He wasn't doing as he ought. He was neglecting his duty. That made sense.

"But she had a problem with me and the girl when it was none of her business. She wasn't my wife in the dream."he said.

I smiled. Is he really that clueless? Apparently yes. "But you know that she is your wife even if she wasn't in the dream. You say she's your boss in your dream because in life you consider her your boss too. No, she doesn't order you around but she's still a very strong influence on your behavior whether you want to believe it or not." I told him. "In this dream she is the boss of your sexuality. She won't allow you a dalliance. She is, in essence, repressing your sexual desires. At least you think this is the case and it's coming out in your dream."

He frowned. "No. I'd never want a girl like that Jaime Presley. She's the total opposite of what I'd like. Her character on the show is nothing short of vile and repulsive. Yeah, she's funny but only because I don't have to be her punching bag. She's a rhymes-with-witch. I hate women like that. You know that. My wife's nothing like that. She's sweet and I'd never cheat on her."he insisted.

Oh, really? The Id never lies and that is who's forcing those dreams to come to the surface. Of course I didn't put it to him that way.

"So then the dream is telling you that you don't follow your sexual urges to fruition because you care for your wife too much to do that. You
