In the first three pages of potential subjects in this sub-channel, eight are about Britney Spears. There are 10 subjects per page, that means from a mathematical standpoint 27% of the possible selections are about the ex Mrs. Federline. Personally, I find this a very sad statement about our society. That we remain fascinated by this washed up and talentless has been who is incapable of caring for herself and unqualified to care for her children. Who cares about Britney Spears? Clearly the answer is that the public does and it is at the expense of Britney and her poor unfortunate children who are all splashed on every tabloid each week.

What I find appalling is the nature of our fascination with this dissolute and spoiled child. Most of us don't think to ourselves how pitiful she is in her obvious pain. Most of us follow her all too public antics as if she were a zoo animal acting out solely for our amusement. We don't think to ourselves, when and who will finally get her the help she so clearly needs; instead we sit back and share pictures of her falling down drunk, drugged out, strapped to a gurney, and otherwise acting the fool. Were she not a celebrity her behavior would be cause for alarm and family and friends would have long since stepped in to save her from herself. Instead, we, society, the media, and even her family, wait anxiously her next misstep. That next mistake represents a opportunity for more publicity, more money in the bank for all concerned.

Clearly, Britney is a product of her upbringing and her years in the limelight. Obviously when a child is denied nothing during their most important formative years, they will never grow into mature adults with good decision-making skills. Britney was the breadwinner of her family from a very young age. Her beauty and small talent made her family wealthy beyond anything they would have ever achieved through their own efforts and hard work. In return for pimping their daughter her parents gained financial wealth and some small fame of their own. She was allowed far more personal freedom than any normal young person would have and far more than her intellect or maturity could handle. The results of this upbringing is before us everyday; a burned out, has been pop princess desperately trying to stay famous long after her talent and beauty has fled.

Who cares about Britney? Clearly many of us do or she would not continue to capture our imagination. If we did not care, she would not continue to take up media
