So, you have diabetes and would like to try some home remedies?
Do you know there are 21 million people living in America with diabetes? Ninety to ninety five percent of these people have type 2 or adult onset diabetes. Do you know the most devastating part of this condition is the complications?
It is very important to consult your physician for guidance and care if your are diagnosed with diabetes in order to avoid complications such as, loss of limbs, loss of eye sight, stroke, neuropathy, end stage kidney problems and heart disease. Diabetes is called the "silent killer" because you can feel fine while the disease process is doing damage.
The good news is, these complications are preventable if you monitor and control your blood sugar levels. If you have consulted with your physician and he/she approves.
Here are some home remedies that may help.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a miraculous agent known to lower blood sugar levels due to its high content of two fibers, potash and pectin. According to Bragg Health Product the best apple cider vinegar is raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar with the "mother" a cloudy web-like strand that you can see when it is held to the light. Recommended dose is usually 1-2 tsp. in 8 ozs. of distilled water taken 3 times per day with meals or right after your meals.
Cinnamon
Cinnamon is highly recommended by researchers for reducing blood sugar levels.
There are cinnamon tea bags available for brewing tea or you may sprinkle cinnamon powder over plain yogurt or other such foods.
Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is also touted as being effective in reducing blood sugar levels in diabetics.
You can use the natural plant for tea or buy the Aloe Vera jell from health food stores.
If you are taking a diabetic medication along with the Aloe Vera it could cause you to have low blood sugar, so check with your physician first.
Other steps you can take to promote healthy blood sugar levels are:
Avoid all sugars, reduce salt intake, eliminate carbs or reduce to a low carb diet.
Adding brussels sprouts, green peas and green beans to your diet will help in reducing your blood sugar levels. Supplementing your diet with fish oil, B vitamins and a multivitamin, taking protein at breakfast and at night are all essential remedies, that will help to improve your blood sugar levels and ward off the complications of diabetes.
Inadequate sleep and stress can raise your blood sugar levels so, get adequate sleep, practice meditation and yoga and control your weight.
The best thing you can do as a diabetic is to exercise, which should include resistance training to build your muscles. This will help in metabolizing your food intake and controlling your blood sugar. Do monitor your blood sugar levels, keep your doctor's visits and enjoy a healthy life style.
