Dear Mr. President,
I know you don't know me, but I work for your office and I've followed your career for the last several years. I sort-of like to think that I helped you get where you are today; you see, Sir, I've voted for you twice - and I'd vote for you again, if I could.
Sir, did you know that people search the internet for Bush quotes? I do it, too. Sometimes you just crack me up - I know you don't always mean to be funny (hey, everyone's tongue gets tied now and then), but you are. I think that's a part of your charm. Bush quotes do make me laugh, but I don't snicker at them in a derogatory way or use them to poke fun at you like some people do. I wouldn't do that because I respect both you and your office.
I'm one of America's Soldiers, Mr. President, and I want you to know that I'm proud to have you as my Commander in Chief. I know there are an awful lot of us who feel the same way. I also know that we're on your mind all the time. I hear people saying otherwise, Sir, but I know that they don't have a clue what they're saying.
I'm getting sidetracked, though. What I really wanted to tell you, Sir, is that I hope you don't let the ramblings of your opponents (some of the squeakiest wheels I've ever heard) bother you. I know that you realize what we're doing over in Iraq is a good thing, but boy are those protesters loud! They're so loud that they drown out people who actually know what they're talking about - and unfortunately, positive stories don't get a fraction of the media coverage that the negative ones do.
You know how some people just like to hear themselves talk, Sir? They talk and talk and talk, but they never really say anything at all; they think that the more they chatter on, the more credibility they have. That's not right, Sir. Those people really get under my skin - and I can only imagine the effect they have on you.
I have a bunch of good (positive) war stories, Sir, if you've got the time or the inclination to hear them. I know you're very busy fending off verbal attackers left and right, but they'll keep until you've got more free time on your hands. I can show you pictures of families that our troops are helping, Iraqi kids who can play outside without being afraid any more, and snapshots of life in the early days in Iraq in comparison to pictures of how it is now - it's absolutely jaw-dropping to see the difference.
Anyway, this letter is getting long and I know you've got all kinds of decisions to make. Didn't you once say, "My job is a decision-making job, and as a result, I make a lot of decisions" or something like that? I got a chuckle out of that one, Sir. I hope you have a wonderful day today and an even better one tomorrow. Thanks for doing what you can with what you have, Sir.
Truly,
A United States Soldier
