I am not an environmentalist or a sceptic, a doom-monger or a pessimist, but in reading, researching and watching global warming issues, I still have problems in understanding why some of the subjects I write about below are not discussed more frequently and openly and their implications for fighting global warming. Some of my information may be out of date despite trying to read the latest articles, but I have tried to be as accurate as possible in as little space as I can.
The Hydrogen Economy and water vapour.
Many and varied theories, proposals and solutions have been put forth to fight global warming, but to me, none of them seem to have been thought through to their conclusions. The much vaunted hydrogen economy is being set up, the first in Iceland and the next being touted for California. But I have not seen or heard of public discussions about the effects of water vapour in the atmosphere from hydrogen exhaust emissions. Water vapour is the most powerful greenhouse gas, hence our atmosphere and clouds, which protect and nurture us. Apart from fog hazards in cooler seasons, there has been little study, or publicly released studies about the final destination of the water vapour and the potential damaging effects that could make global warming worse. Depending on where water vapour ends up in the atmosphere it could have a detrimental effect on cloud formation and storms (El Nino/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and Northern Oscillations effects) and could even act to trap more heat and cause more global warming. Of course, this is not confirmed, but neither are any scientists certain of possible feedback complications. Environmentalists and scientists seem quiet on this subject. I do not think that there is a conspiracy here in any of these issues, just a short-sighted view to fight global warming, when a long-term strategy is needed from start to finish.
Oil companies.
As an aside to the hydrogen economy, most of the public do not realise that the hydrogen produced for the new energy revolution will come from hydro-carbons, natural gas and oil products. It is far too costly at the moment to produce hydrogen from water. So, oil companies are holding both ends of the candle and burning the fossil fuel end first, before starting serious work on the other end. We cannot blame oil companies for wanting to hold onto their prime profit cow, but in the end, there has to be some corporate responsibility for their actions. No doubt there will be a transition
