Your perfect weekend getaway within the United States depends on where you live. An ideal weekend getaway spot is close to home, but different enough so you feel as though you have been "away." Travel(either flying or driving) should not take more than four or five hours, otherwise, you will spend most of your long weekend in-route, and not relaxing and recreating. Your ideal spot should have plenty of your favorite activities, whether you enjoy site-seeing, eating, shopping, or outdooring.

Northeast:
Boston, Massachusetts is the perfect get-away. With something for everyone, even New Yorkers are in a different world in "Bah-stin." Boston is jam-packed with houses, monuments, cemeteries and museums related to the United States in its infancy. Between touring the Edgar Allen Poe House, sitting in a pew at the Old North Church and following the entire Freedom Trail, you see most of one of America's oldest cities, and receive a thorough history lesson. Walking the trail is a great way to walk off Italian pastries, pasta and other waistline-widening goodies you will no doubt eat along the way. Read the newspaper on Boston Common and take a swan-boat ride in the Boston Public Garden. For shoppers, fabulous boutiques line Newbury Street, with beautiful historic homes above. The Prudential Center offers many high-end options like Tiffany and Co. and Saks Fifth Avenue. Boston's theater district hosts popular shows like long-running Blue Man Group (wear old clothes) and Monty Python's Spamalot. Boston's oldest eatery, the Union Oyster House, open since 1826, still serves 'em on the half shell at 42 Union Street. Southea st
Charleston, South Carolina is a world away. Even if you live in the south, Downtown Charleston brims with arts, culture, dining and history. Explore Gullah culture, a unique hybrid of English and African language developed on the sea islands off Charleston's coast. You can still purchase handmade sea-grass baskets by master craftspeople around town. Take a horse and carriage ride through Charleston's historic antebellum neighborhoods, and peek through fences and gates to view precious secret gardens. Walking tours covering every subject including Pirates, Civil War and Ghosts are available. Shop and dine along King Street, downtown's main drag. Don't forget to drink some Sweet Tee while in town.
