My top 10 comeback yearnings

Ok, we managed to trudge through 2007. It may have been a stellar year for you. It was a year I'm glad I can close the book on and forget. This whole decade has been a dozy for me...up and down like the stock market. It's left me reflecting and yearning for certain things in 2008.

Here are some things I really wish we could see comeback in 2008:

1. Fiscal Responsibility and Stability: There is a spiral twisting out of control everywhere. At the moment we are seeing a crisis in the mortgage and housing industry. As a result the whole financial world is in tremors. Basically this has been brought on by ARM (Adjustable Rate Mortgages) mortgages many people used as vehicles a few years back to get in homes way over their budgets. Some were "sub prime mortgages" made to people whole didn't qualify for great rates because of bad credit. Are we really surprised at what's happening now?

2. Real Heroes: Call me crazy, but I just can't get into a purple dinosaur, or a Ninja Turtle as a hero. Likewise a trust fund brat a la Paris Hilton or an out of control women-child who is spiraling toward destruction a la Brittany Spears and Lindsey Lohan or even Michael Vick who still has his defenders. They all are, in my opinion, unnecessary chatter held together by smoke and mirrors.

We need the comeback of real heroes. Someone...anyone that accomplished something real and worthwhile.

3. Patriotism: Yeah, I know, this one is so passe, so old fashion, but guess what? I don't care! I yearn for it! We've lost what it means to be who we are as a people. In becoming "multicultural" and "global" we have lost our identity. When that happens you forget who you are. It's call amnesia when it happens to an individual. When it happens to a country you have a societal crisis. No wonder so many things are in chaos.

I am an American. Yes, I have Scotch, Irish, English, German and Native American roots. Once I finish my family tree no telling what else I might find. I cherish each portion of my heritage. But, first and foremost I am an American. I yearn to see people get goose bumps again when they see the flag or hear the National Anthem. If you think this is such a crappy country and can openly gripe about it, you should be all the more thankful you live in America. In some countries, you would be shot before sundown for doing that very thing.

4. Real Families: I yearn for a comeback of the good ol' days of mom, dad and the kids. I grew up in the Donna Reed era. It wasn't the horror most people make
