I would have to say that my favorite verse of all times is found in the first book of the New Testament. After learning about the birth, life, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, we learn that he has a very important mission for us. That mission is to spread his word to all nations.
He says: All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I Will be with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:18-20.
In this verse you know what Jesus wants you to do, what he wants you to teach and your reward. You don't have to guess what your job is, this is no covert operation and everyone who reads it will know what your job is as well.
You know that He has all the authority in heaven given by God (the Father) to the people on earth. He can make this decision because he has the divine okay from his Father, and the creator of all. So he has to answer to no one when he tells you to go and do this job.
His command is simple. One word sums up the first part of it, Go! That is pretty easy to remember right, get out there and make it happen, don't stand around waiting for someone else to do it, get off your duff and Go. The second part is a little harder but quite easy to remember, make disciples. That means talk to everyone, believers and others alike. Build up the believers knowledge and bring the others the knowledge of Christ.
He gives you advise on what to do to make this job a success. He says to teach what he has taught you, there is a whole lot of parables and instances that he speaks of all over the Gospels that teach what he taught and guess what it is called the Good News. He also instructs us to Baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
He then tells you that the reward is he will be with you always. Never fear that you will be alone in this your new job, because a power greater than you have ever faced or will ever face again has your back.
And that is why this is my favorite verse in the bible, because one small group of verses holds so much meaning for so many people.
