There is no experience like the smell of wood burning, smores stuck on your nose, and sleeping with the root of a tree right in the middle of your back.
I have gone camping in a tent my whole life! The whole point of camping is to enjoy nature and all it has to offer! Now, I admit, I may take my cell for emergencies, but I am happy to break away from the television and distractions for a few days.
We have camped in the hottest weather to cold and stormy weather. We have rigged anything you can imagine to stay dry! Tarps are a hot item for us. We take so many, one would think we were setting up for a huge event! We do not use all of them, however we do use some on the ground under the tents. This helps the flow of water from leaking through the tent. That is not always a guarantee. We use some on top of the tent and tie them to trees.
We tie some over the picnic table we eat on too. This provides shade during the day and protects us from getting soaked in the rain. The tent can get a little stuffy if you cannot open the window coverings.
There are all sizes and shapes of tents to accomodate campers! Also, if you do not like feeling twigs, branches, and roots there are more alternatives. Now,there are thicker sleeping bags to air beds. Air beds can be battery operated, filled with a bicycle pump, or a fast fill machine you can hook up to your car. That is if your camp site has no electricity offered.
We use lanterns and the campfire for light at night. We cook on the fire place or take an old stove run on gas. I prefer the campfire! You can make everything from Coffee to hobo's on there. Hobo's are meat, vegetables, and more inside a foil wrapping. They are my favorite! For dessert, you can make smores and other treats. Smores require a twig with a marshmallow on the end. You can brown it a little or burn it for added flavor and crunch. Take a piece of chocolate and place it on a graham cracker square. Take another graham cracker and remove the marshmallow using both squares.
When you go camping in a tent, you are most likely to stay out of the tent. You are more inclined to study nature, go hiking, swimming, exploring, fishing, and more. You really get a sense of the definition of camping. An RV provides you with too many excuses to stay inside. What's the point of camping if you are doing the same things you would do at home?
Using public showers and toilets. Take your own toiletries and cleaning supplies. Most camp sites have hired personel to clean these daily. However, if you are camping during a holiday for example, they are being used frequently. You can clean the toilets and showers before using them. Wear slippers or sandals inside the shower while bathing every time.
I love camping in a tent! I do not mind twisting and turning to find the right spot for sleeping. If I sleep, that is. I enjoy taking midnight walks under the stars and listening to the unique sounds nature has to offer. I love telling stories about the nocturnal animals around the campfire. Let's not forget the classic tales, like the one about the hook on the car!
