A baby boomer's guide to vacationing in San Diego, California

For those of you who thought San Diego, California is just for bikini clad beach bunnies or hard bodies surfer you couldn't be more wrong. There is so much more to San Diego than just beautiful beaches and near perfect year round weather. This area of California is a rich blend of history, culture, entertainment and adventure that people of all ages can enjoy.

Among my favorite things to do in San Diego is whale watching, and I am not talking fat people at the beach. The gray whales migrate through the waters near San Diego starting at the end of December through the end of March. There is something so fascinating about these huge majestic animals swimming in the ocean that will almost leave you speechless.

The Old Town Trolley Tour is another attraction that should be put on your to do list. This guided tour will take you through historic San Diego and there just isn't any better way to see the city than on a trolley. You don't have to worry about finding a parking place or wrestling with a map. The tour guides are well educated on the history of the area and will entertain as well as inform you. The tour has 8 scheduled stops where passengers can get off the trolley and explore on their own. You can stay as long as you would like at each location before continuing on with your tour.

It doesn't matter what age you are; no trip to San Diego would be complete without a visit to the world famous San Diego Zoo. The Zoo has over 4000 animals and 800 different species on exhibit and some rare animals like the giant Pandas and Koalas.

The San Diego parasail Adventure in Mission Bay may be a little hard to find; so when you call to make your reservations make sure you get directions, but I guarantee you parasailing with these guys is worth the effort. The Captain and his crew member have a reputation for their witty banter and their ability to put even the most inexperienced parasailers at ease. They offer both single and double rides so you don't have to go screaming a hundred feet over the ocean alone. Did I say screaming, I meant soaring?

Once you take the time to explore all that San Diego has to offer besides beaches you'll wonder why you hadn't done it sooner.
