Does ESPN have an East Coast bias when covering college basketball?

teams are. The Spurs, Suns, and Mavs are possible 3 of the 5 best teams in the National Basketball Association. Many people on the east coast don't have the option staying up late watching the NBA games on the west coast. This adds to the proposed east coast bias in college basketball. True basketball fans are going to watch the sport regardless that is playing. If they are genuine NBA fans and it is not on, they will watch a Duke, UNC, Florida, Kansas, or Kentucky game just because of the big name and the exposure received. This is allowed due to the NBAs scheduling and the lack of competitive teams on the east coast. This leads to one thing, watching college basketball. Once they see a Kentucky versus Louisville, a Duke versus UNC game, or another great college rivalry they are hooked! The NBA actually leads the media to the east coast bias.

Yes, there may be a slight east coast bias to ESPN and the other sports related media personnel. This is created because the vast majority of NCAA basketball teams that dominate year in and year out are located east of the Mississippi. The best conferences are also located here as well. The media is going to report what is popular among the fans and the most important stories to sports at that time. A solid UCLA team against a terrible USC team isn't desirable basketball to many of the current college basketball fans. The NBA also pushes sports fans on the east coach to watch college basketball due to its scheduling. Since there isn't NBA on they are forced to watch this great game, and actually learn to like it. On the east coast there is a feeling. This is a feeling that can't be generated on the west coach. This feeling is great college basketball. If you don't agree with this take a trip down Tobacco Road, or Franklin Street in North Caroline the night of a Duke versus UNC game. There is nothing like it, especially on the west coast.
