Why praise should not drive Christians: Don't do it for kudos!

God created man for fellowship with Him. He also created humankind with a free will to choose to obey or disobey. When they where in the garden they chose to disobey, yet God came down and cloth them and gave them hope. when God made the statement that the seed of the woman, Jesus would suffer pain, the bruised heel, but the serpent's seed would suffer a bruised head, a defeat Satan met at the cross and now is awaiting the carrying out of the penalty.

Because of what God has provided for humankind, those who have chosen to follow Him through Jesus and His work on the cross, there should be praise going up to His throne continuesly. However, the question is should it be done for "kudos?"
What is kudos? According to the dictionary, it means receiving glory, honor, and acclaim.

According to the definition, we have accomplished nothing to receive glory or acclaim. We did nothing to receive salvation, nothing to provide for our salvation. We can just accept what a loving, caring, God provides and He alone deserves praise. The word of God commands us to praise Him and sing praises to Him. A quick perusel of the bible especially in Psalms will show the praise that only God is worthy of. To list a couple of these verses: Psalm 104:1 "Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, You are very great: You are clothed with honor and majesty" Psalm 1045:1-3, "I will extol You, my God, O King; and I will bless Your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless You, and I will praise Your name forever and ever. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and His greatness is unsearchable." (Nelson's New King James Bible, 1997 Thomas Nelson Inc.)

The verse I want to go to now to show where the praise belongs is Galatians6:14, "But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world." Our boasting is in the work Jesus accomplished at Calvary, the blood that was poured out to cleanse us from our sins. Jesus never sinned but became sin for us and now we have forgiveness through Him and Him alone. For what are worthy of kudos? What do we have to glory in?

The person who wants the glory or honor, as some preachers seem to revel in is suffering from a severe case of pride, which is a sin. This is a haughty attitude with the person thinking they are better than others are. However, the Christian should continue in sending up praises and glory to the One who is worthy, the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world for a lost and dying world.
