People love drama its that simple, especially when a story has yet to be told. Football is like a blockbuster movie where your favorite players play the heroes while your enemies are all the other football teams.
When your in city with a championship football team it becomes a symbol of greatness for the city it represents. Therefore, people become more in tune to watch because they too want to be recognized as followers of a great team. On the other hand, when you have a loosing team you almost feel like you need to move as far away as you can from the supporters of something so bad. For example, before the New England Patriots were a super bowl champion for the first time I am quite sure their fan base was a lot smaller than it is now. Now Tom Brady is like the lost member of the Beatles and Bill Belicheck is the Darth Vader of the NFL.
The NFL will always be linked with historical events, and that too carries weight making football so great. Where were you when Joe Namoth made his guarantee that his team would be the heavily favorite Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III? Or when the New York Giants and Jets played their first home game after 9/11. The collection of events will continue to create more excitement for the game.
Football has become a national debate at times. Should Brett Favre retire this year or should he let the team grow without him? Will the distraction of Jessica Simpson be the downfall of Tony Romo in 2008 playoffs? Can Bill Parcells help rebuild the struggling Miami Dolphins. Football just keeps creating more stories and we as football fans love to talk about them.
Some fans are just attracted to the barbaric hits, last second touchdowns or a back breaking kick off return and that is enough for some. For others they enjoy when a star quarterback goes down from injury and then the back up comes in and performs even better than expected creating yet another controversy. There are countless reasons to watch even if you are not a regular fan.
The best thing about watching football perhaps is at the beginning of every season. Every team has a chance to win the Super Bowl. Yes to name a few even the Arizona Cardinals, Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions or perhaps the Oakland Raiders can win and erase all of those terrible years from the past.
Still there are countless more reasons why people watch football and that will continue as long as Football keeps growing as one of America greatest sports. Keep watching and see what makes you want to watch more football.
