There is no point destroying your peace of mind and happiness by taking the wrong job. Society may pressure you into grabbing whatever you can get, by its dictates of having a job and earning a good wage, but you have your own life to lead amongst its mess. If you do not have a set path that you know must be taken, and you do not have a single opening with nothing else 'beeping at you' to turn to, then you have the opportunity to choose something you will not only be paid for doing, but enjoy.
One of the most proficient ways of locating a suitable career to satisfy you is to determine your personality type. It may seem obvious that the creative type does not really find much pleasure in a job as a butcher or dry cleaning assistant, and that an obedient submissive character may not find happiness within a career stemming from teaching or leading a team of missionaries, but some of the possibilities may not have been considered for your style of being when considering your career.
To find the best job for your personality type, the first step is to know what and who you really are. If you already know your style, you can search for compatible employment; however, if you are uncertain, there are avenues to explore that will help you discover who and what you are. An employment center, careers adviser, or online quiz can assist you, for example.
Taking my own personal situation for an example, I am definitely a creative type. Additionally, I prefer to be my own boss otherwise rely on a boss I truly both respect and admire. I do not like telling people what to do, or being told what to do. I do not relate well to regular 9-5 hours. I do not feel satisfied being paid a high wage for a crappy job. I feel much more at home at home.
Combining my creativity, submissive independence, unconventional status, lack of monetary acknowledgment, and desire to stay at home, my ideal career tends to lean heavily towards a home-operated business concerning creativity. I actually happen to have chosen this solution; I am a writer, poet, author, publisher and photographer that also dabbles in artwork. I have suited my career to my personality type. I recommend others take this avenue, if seeking true pleasure from their career.
