DIY Halloween decoration ideas

Everyone has a favorite holiday for one reason or another. I have two; Halloween and Christmas. For the last several years or so, my financial situation has been rather bleak. I have learned some great ways to really "deck out" my home and yard without spending much money at all. Coming up with your own ideas for decorating is fun and a great way to spend some quality time as a family. These days, we could all use more of that. Every family has their own belief system. Mine might not be the same as yours, but maybe you can still use some of the techniques to make decorations that your family can enjoy.

This year, I got the Halloween bug a little early. I am going to list my ideas along with the instructions to carry them out. I hope they will be useful to you all.

A Mock Graveyard: I think one of the creepiest of Halloween decorations are mock tombstones. I happened to have a lot of cardboard boxes on hand. The idea began to flourish. Here is what you will need:
* Cardboard boxes
* Good scissors
* Black spray paint
* A white paint pen or white paint using a fine brush for lettering
* Garden fencing border

Instructions: First you must "tear down" your cardboard box. In whatever style you wish, outline your tombstone shape on the flat cardboard with a pencil and cut it out. Coat the cut out with black spray paint and allow it to dry. Using stencils or free hand, outline your text on the painted piece, then paint your text white. You can use the classic "RIP" or something like "Here lies old man….." I will be applying some classic names of the deceased like Jimmi Hendrix, Jack the Ripper and so on. Make as many tombstones as you wish to fit in you r space. I made a squared area in my front yard using some white coated garden fencing I picked up at the local dollar store. It will provide the perfect mini graveyard fence. I also made a small cardboard sign with a green background, drew a spider and ghost and the text "Please do not mow." To get your tombstones to stand up, cut a cardboard strip, bend it and attach it to the center back bottom with a glue stick or even a small piece of duct tape. We don't get much rain where I live in north central Texas, but if it is frequent in your area your cardboard might get soaked so find a spot that may be covered or throw a small tarp over it when you expect rain. Your graveyard area can be as small or large and in any shape you have enough border fencing to make.
If your yard is very dark you might want to provide a little
