War in Iraq

How to end the war in Iraq

The ostrich is an interesting animal. For years people think that they like to stick their heads in the ground to avoid trouble. If they don't see it then it doesn't exist. Of course, ostriches have a brain that's smaller than a walnut.

I find it so interesting that the same people that think that so many people in Iraq are dying because of our presence seem to forget how many people will die after we leave. It's also interesting how many of these people take a totally isolationist view of the US' involvement in other country's affairs and believe that we should stay home and shut our borders - unless, it's to let illegal immigrants in. But, I digress.

The "war" in Iraq is over. It ended years ago. What we're dealing with now is not a civil war or even a resistance. It's an insurgency. Terrorists (some native, some foreign) are working to destabilize the government through a series of physical, psychological, and propaganda-based attacks. The whole plan works toward undermining the efforts of the coalition forces and to lower popular opinion in Iraq and coalition nations enough to force the coalition forces to leave the country and allow leaders that are sympathetic to their cause to take power.

This is a reality. If you look beyond the sound-bytes on Tv and actually read about what's going on in the country you'll find that there isn't a war going on. You might think that because people are getting killed every day there's a war going on - well, people are still getting killed on the highways in America every day. Should traffic conditions be considered a war? (well, maybe in Southern California).

We don't need to worry about ending the war in Iraq. We need to cut off the foreign moneys, weapons, and personnel causing the insurgency in Iraq. We also need to help the Iraqi Army learn to fight without any foreign intervention. We need to teach these people to stand on their own - perhaps for the first time in their country's existence.
