Online video game reviews: Cryptex of Time

Cryptex of Time isn't what I would call a high tech video game. The graphics are okay, but the music and action of the game are kind of out dated. It was more frustrating to play than fun.

The game pauses every time a new ring of jewels is added to the cryptex causing the player lose their place on the cryptex. There is a warning that comes up when your cryptex is getting too tall, and you guessed it, the game pauses for a few seconds while that warning is on the screen. If you are in the middle of moving the jewels around while a new ring is added the game pauses in the middle of you move sometimes causing you to miss the alignment you were trying to make.

I generally like puzzle games over real life or action games and couldn't seem to get into a rhythm with this game. Even when you activate a bonus jewel that would remove all the jewels in a ring or in column the game pauses, but new rings can continue to fall. Some people might say that this makes the game more of a challenge, I just didn't like it.

The graphics reminded me of old games like Tetris or some on line games like bejeweled or sphinx they aren't as detailed or as life like as some of the other new games you can download. The large white flashes that occurs everything time you activate a bonus jewel are distracting and block most of the screen.

The music is comparable to elevator or doctor's office background music and seemed rather generic. It didn't really go with the game play at all; in fact I liked playing the game better with the sound off.

All in all this isn't a bad game; it just isn't a game that is comparable to the other new games out there. For the same amount of money I could have gotten a game with much better mechanics and graphics that had music I would have enjoyed listening to. It is basically a new twist on Bejeweled, so anyone who likes that game would probably love this one since the premise is the same, to line up and remove jewels from the playing field.

I would give this game a 2.5 out 5 because although it isn't my type of game I am sure there are people who will like it.
