I can happily say that I don't hate my job. In fact, I don't think I've ever had a job I could say I hated. I've had jobs that I didn't like, duties that I didn't enjoy doing, but I have never worked a job where I could say there was absolutely no enjoyment to be found.
At the moment, I currently have two jobs, and I have to say, I love both of them. I work as a freelance writer and editor part time, while also working full time as an ESL teacher in Southern China.
Of course, there are moments of frustration, times when I wonder what why I'm doing what I do and days when I want to simply run away, with both jobs. But on the whole, I love both of the roles I've undertaken.
For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a writer. Admittedly when I wanted this at 5 or 6, I imagined myself as a famous author, earning lots of money. The reality is, most of my assignments are copywriting or articles, but I'm more than satisfied with that. While I'm not earning an overwhelming amount, I'm also not on the poverty line. My aim is to eventually build up my business so that I can write full time, and work part time, instead of the other way around, and I'm well on my way to achieving this.
As to my job as an ESL teacher, it's just fantastic. I get to work with a range of children, from kindergarten through to senior high school. Watching them develop and learn, and knowing that you're part of that, is an amazing feeling. I also get the benefit of living in another country, learning a new language and getting plenty of writing material from the experience.
I have to say that I've been lucky - I've never been out of work, and I've never had to take a job just so that there was money coming in. When I've wanted to change jobs, I've always had the luxury of looking around, and waiting for the right job to come up.
I've seen friends working in jobs that they hate, and they're just miserable. It spills over into the rest of their lives, and in some cases, has caused health and emotional problems. Life can be difficult enough without contending with a job you dread going to every morning.
I can only hope that my luck continues and that I'm never in a position where I hate my job.
