How to pick the best dress for your body type

When searching for classic staples to add to your wardrobe, you are bombarded with choices. Some choices are perfect for your figure. Others ruin the uniqueness of your body. How many times has the following situation happened to you?

After walking around a major department store, you have finally spotted a frock in the latest fashion. The hue is magnificent, the material, divine. To make it all the more tantalizing, it's on sale! Ecstatic, you rush to the nearest dressing room. Unfortunately, after several long glances in the mirror, you finally realized that you have picked the worse dress possible. How could such a stunning masterpiece look so revolting? How can you avoid heartache while searching for your dream dress?

According to myShape.com, each woman has one of seven body types:

*Shape M: Characteristics of this shape include soft, straight figures, fairly straight shoulders, and rounded bottoms. Measurements between the waist and hip differ by 7 inches or more.

*Shape Y: Characteristics of this shape include broad shoulders, proportionally narrow hips, and less defined waistlines.

*Shape S: Characteristics of this shape include curves in front and side profiles, and soft shoulder lines. Measurements between the waist and the combined measurements of the bust and hips differ by 10 inches.

*Shape H: Characteristics of this shape include aligned shoulders and hips. Waist measurements measure within 6 inches of the hips. Flat bottom profile.

*Shape A: Characteristics of this shape include narrow shoulders and bust, while the hips are broad.

*Shape P: Characteristics of this shape include full bust, flat bottom, while the hips are narrow.

*Shape E: Characteristics of this shape include rounded profiles; small difference between bust, waist and hip measurements.

Now that you were able to identify your body type, what should you look for? Let's, for example, hunt for the perfect little black dress (LBD). The LBD is a classic fashion staple that every woman should own. If you have a LBD but it doesn't flatter your body type, read on. Or maybe you have yet to own this legendary sheath. If so, read on.

*Shape M: Your ideal LBD is Donna Ricco's Plunging V-neck Dress. The plunging front and back will distract from your angles. You'll love how the sophisticated, corseted look gives you a wonderful waistline. Accessorize with a mid-length necklace.

*Shape Y: Your ideal LBD is ABS' Bubble Hem Dress. This dress is a detour from the simple LBD but the crimson color will put you
