How do I get my child interested in playing an instrument? This is a very broad question. It deals with thinking structures, focus and meditation. When it comes to developing skills, the will can find a way in spite of all obstacles.
Observe your child secretly, looking out for natural moments of quiet concentration whilst they are at play or investigating something new Measure the level of focus or interest attained by the child. Do not include post reprimand' or enforced silence; it is the child's will you are studying, not obedience to your will. Measure how long it takes to break the child's concentration; this will show you how much the child values their own thoughts and how much independence it gives them.
Music and art is simply a fascination or understanding of frequency relationships.
The first musical structure a child learns is its parent's voices. Children learn the musical structure of a language years before attempting to pronounce their first word. They understand minutely different levels of tempo tone and volume spoken by their parents. A musician can only dream of communicating such a fine understanding of conversation, for only the best can make an instrument talk.
Like all animals, children learn by observing and copying; they do this so well in the beginning because they have no understanding of distraction. Also brain space allotted to the understanding of one thought pattern can produce a super ability to use that structure. When someone becomes blind they do not develop better hearing but instead develop a better understanding of sounds we normally ignore or are distracted from by vision. We know when an actor is not using convincing or believable tones and rhythm, or we can tell when another person is hiding something or are not quite comfortable with a subject of conversation.
A geat idea would be for the mother to join a choir or just sing alone or better still with others; it doesn't matter where until the baby is born. Humming deep descending scales whilst holding a baby close to your rib cage will send it to sleep whilst teaching tone distances. This also gives the child relation to sounds it heard whilst still in the womb. Vocal harmony is the greatest catalyst of musical thinking and the understanding of tonal distance. Later, the child will prefer copying then performing activities so the more family members there are who play an instrument the greater the likelihood of the child wanting to learn to join in. If noone in the family
