The core of the book is Farrell describing a technique of building up in the imagination of a kingdom over which one is the ruler (King/Queen). The kingdom and its inhabitants are a reflection of different parts of oneself. By dealing with the problems that arise inside the kingdom, one is addressing the needs of one's own self. As one grows in strength inside their personal kingdom, they will also grow in strength in the outer world.

Farrell suggests possible characters (the advisor, the lover, etc.) and scenarios that one might want to develop while working with the imagery of the personal kingdom. While it is hard to sum up this type of work in a book (the experiences vary from person to person, and the work of the inner kingdom can be extended for several years by those who are interested in doing so), Farrell provides a fairly complete outline for those who are interested in pursuing this line of practical magical and meditative work.

If you are interested in the use of active imagination, visualization, guided mediations, and pathworking, Farrell's book "Magical Pathworking: Techniques of Active Imagination" (Llewellyn: 2004) will prove to be a useful primer for you.
