Rainy Day Indoor Activities for Children.
Rainy days, let me tell you, I know a thing or two about rainy days. Here in the land allergic to sunshine, by that I mean Ireland, I have had a lot of practice not only entertaining Kids on rainy days but entertaining myself. Here are some interesting creative ways to chase away the boredom blues for your kids. Whether your kids are into arts and crafts, music and dance or simple word games I am sure there is something in here for all tastes.
As a parent myself I understand that it is not easy to keep the children of today active, when they are used to having their eyes glued to a t.v set and their fingers on the X' button. I have found however from experience that kids will respond to some suggested encouragement and that many of the games and activities you would once play are new and sometimes fascinating to an inquisitive child.
When the rain is pelting against the window, there is nothing better than curling up and having a Pajama day. A way of making this fun for kids is, dressing them in over sized old clothes, and getting all glued up. For this activity you need some colored paper, string, glue,or sticky tape, an old shoe box, cling film, and imagination. This I call a shoe box aquarium. By drawing coloring cutting and hanging paper fish, your Kids can create an under water paradise in no time. Blue paper can be folded and rippled to create waves and as many fish can be added as desired. To finish the cling film covers the opening on the box as the fish hang from the string inside. Hours of fun.
Another great activity that starts with arts and crafts and leads to an exciting game is a treasure hunt. Firstly a map needs to be drawn, and a treasure needs to be made. The map can be as simple as you want and the treasure can consist of a few coins wrapped in foil or in colored paper. Clues can be left at different areas of the house and each participant can take it in turns to be the pirate or the map maker. A game enjoyed by everyone the world over for generations.
Another great activity which I know your kids would love is painting on canvas. Canvas can be bought cheaply and is widely available. The great thing about this is that your kids can create a lasting work of art which can be hung in their bedrooms afterwords. Giving them a topic or an idea is a great source of encouragement and the reward is the longevity of their piece of art.
If arts and crafts are not for your Kids, how about
