Below are 4 recommended products to cover all the possible combinations people come up with when they need good quality sunscreen. I have written this in a hopefully easy to read format, but please note since I am new to this site, some people might disagree with my format choices.
# 1 - Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock SPF 55 - about $10 for 4 ounces
SPF - 55
UVA Protection - Avobenzone plus Oxybenzone and Helioplex
Lotion, Spray or Gel - Lotion
Other Information - Also comes in SPF 70. SPF 30 and 45 are also available, but don't have Helioplex. It is also sweat-resistant and water-resistant.
User Notes: This is our best sunscreen overall, that me and my friends in Florida use when we go yachting. We keep this one in stock on our boat because we feel this offers a perfect blend of protection and price and overall good general use.
# 2 - Blue Lizard Sunscream Sensitive SPF 30 - about $13 for 9 ounces
SPF - 30
UVA Protection - Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide
Lotion, Spray or Gel - Lotion
Other Information - Water resistant, 100% chemical-free, fragrance-free
User Notes: Use this one if you have sensitive skin and or babies. This product is a necessity you have to have on hand if when you go yachting and inevitably your best friend or mate brings a girl who is overly-sensitive about their skin. This product as you might have guessed works because of the chemical free and fragrance free stipulation above. We have had no complaints from this one on numerous yachting trips.
# 3 - Lancome UV Expert 20 - about $35 for 3.4 ounces
SPF - 20
UVA Protection - Mexoryl SX plus Avobenzone and Titanium Dioxide
Lotion, Spray or Gel - Lotion
Other Information - Only comes in SPF 20
User Notes: Ok this might sound silly but this is the best one for UVA protection and it is more pricey then the rest. We have tried this one yachting but this one is hard to recommend unless your part of that affluent crowd. Does it work? Much better then the Neutrogena, but because some people swear by the theory that if it costs more its worth it we have this one just in case.
# 4 - Ombrelle Sunscreen Lotion - about $10 for 4 ounces
SPF - 15, 30, 45, 60; winter protection SPF 25
UVA Protection - Mexoryl SX and Titanium Dioxide is found in the kids' products
Lotion, Spray or Gel - Lotion or spray
Other Information - Very water resistant
User Notes: Highly Recommended for winter protection and of light SPF Protection and of the need for extreme water resistance. We have tried this one and recommend it on yachting and boat trips when your climate is more cold then warm. I have given this to many friends who prefer to boat around Michigan and the Great Lakes where logically it has a tendency to get a bit cold.
