Can Bi- polar mothers make good parents? Well I would have to say yes for I am bi- polar, as well as a mother of three. And yes I have my ups and downs more than "normal" people but I have found ways to cope with my disorder and my children are well informed to mommy's condition. And they understand that sometimes mommy has bad days but with the tools and steps I do and take I have more good days than bad. And I do my best every day to care for my children in every way they need. So whom ever doubts if a bi-polar mother can make a good parent as long as they are taking there medication and using there coping tools, and really want to be a good mother they will. So I say yes! I am a good mother so I am going to have to disagree with anyone who thinks otherwise. Thank about it if a mother has postpartum depression do we doubt her parental skills no, we feel sympathetic towards her and her family bi-polar is just like any other disorder . So why do people think ill towards women like me? Oh and not only do I suffer from bi-polar but I am raising a bi-polar son w/ADD and he actually learns to cope with it and he benefits from having a mother with the same disorder as himself. So there is even more good to what I have to say on the subject. I wonder can a stressed out mother who hates her job be a good parent? Just a thought but think about it when you are over stressed and you are stuck in a dead end job you tend to yell at your children for trivial little things and lose your temper for no apparent reason right? So what is the difference other than the "label" of "BI- POLAR"? You might as well be calling half of the people in the world a bad parent in that case... Well that is enough on this subject I am sure I made my argument. And if you really read what I have to say you will see that it is a very good argument and it is very true.....
