The greatest college football coaches

Today's win was an awesome way to end his career as one of Michigan's finest. Some of us Wolverine fans are still mourning the death of Coach Bo Schembechler. I still blame the death of Coach Schembechler on our chance to gain the Championship last year. That's said and done, though.

This year we are losing another great coach. Coach Lloyd Carr is leaving the team but on a winning game, which is good. Today's game against the Florida Gators was most definitely sweet victory considering what we went through last year. They put on a good fight but we still got 'em.

Coach Carr has hailed the victors through four straight bowl games. Those being the rose in 1998, Citrus in 1999, the Orange in 2000, and the Florida Citrus in 2001. Then of course we took the Outback Bowl in 2003. Four years of losing, it was high time we took a bowl game. No better team to take it from then the 2006-07 BCS Champs. Ha, but Tebow was sweet as usual. Henne played pretty good too. ~wink~ Offense definitely made this game on both sides, to say the least.

Coach Carr began his coaching career at Nativity High in Detroit back in 1968-69. Then he went to Belleville High from 1970-73. When he was with John Glenn High between 1973-75, Coach Carr earned Regional Class A Coach of the Year honors. That was earned after a 8-1 season. He coached for Eastern Michigan as a college coach from 1976-77 and then for Illinois before finally landing in Wolverine territory. He belongs to two Halls of Fame. Those being the Catholic League and NMU (Northern Michigan University).

Coach Carr has won several honors as well. He was the forth Michigan coach to win coach of the year awards. Some awards include the American Football Coaches Association, Woody Hayes honors, Maxwell Football Club and many others.

While attending Riverview High, Carr was an all-state quarterback back in 1962. He was back-up quarterback for the Missouri Tigers on their 1966 Sugar Bowl Championship team. He also lead one of U-M's greatest victories against their all time rivals, OSU Bucks, back in 1995. The Wolverines won 31-23 to #2 OSU. Not to mention in the 1996 season, we defeated the undefeated Bucks, yet again, at their home. Tough game, we won 13-9.

Looking forward to next year and to see what the new coach will do for the Wolverines. Until then, GO BLUE !
