pests, such as aphids and spider mites, from the undersides of the leaves of effected plants.

HOMEMADE FUNGICIDE:
1 tablespoon baking soda
1 gallon water

Add the baking soda to a garden sprayer and fill with the water. I spray this mixture all over the foliage of any of my plants that seem to be attacked by fungal diseases such as powdery mildew. I like to water my plants in the late morning or early afternoon to make sure the foliage has plenty of time to dry off before the sun sets. Watering late in the day is not a wise idea as wet foliage is more susceptible to being attacked by fungal and other diseases.

WAR ON TOADS
If you suffer from slug infestations the old stale beer in a container is supposed to attract them away from your plants. I tried this one year when I thought I might have a slug problem. I went out at midnight with my flashlight to check the slug traps. I didn't have any slugs in my yard, the pests turned out to be cutworms, but I had a couple of very happy toads slurping down the beer. I'm sure my neighbors got a kick out of seeing my daughter and I poking around the garden in our pj's and slippers! The toads haven't left my yard since that night, they must be thinking "When's that crazy garden lady going to get us another beer?"
