What happens when you put Oscar Winners Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman together with Oscar Nominated writer and director Rob Reiner? Pure Brilliance.
Edward Cole (Jack Nicholson) is a hard talking but incredibly clever hospital owner, he works hard and plays harder. If he is disturbed, it better be for something good, after all he could be having sex with Michelle Pfeiffer (not actually in the film but referenced on numerous occasions). One day Edward is not feeling himself and finds that he becomes a patient in his own hospital.
Carter Chambers (Morgan Freeman) is a hardworking mechanic, for 40 years he has worked in a job that had little interest to him, simply so that he could provide for his family. There is light at the end of the tunnel however for Carter will soon be able to retire. But on one afternoon completely out of the blue Carter starts to bleed.
Two men from very different backgrounds bought together in a hospital room, the one thing they have in common however is that in 6 to 12 months they will both be dead. This is much like a two handed movie with Nicholson and Freeman taking control of the movie. Nicholson shows all the sides he had in both Witches Of Eastwick and As Good As It Get's, the latter movie having a lot of similar ground to The Bucket List. As ever like a rather mischievous child Nicholson often lights the wick and walks away to see what will happen, grinning from ear to ear rather like he did when he played The Joker in Batman. But there is a sad side to this, Nicholson a man who has dominated the press for years because of his ballooning weight has lost a considerable amount of it. And in the first portion of the movie as his character is operated on, and tested

I had always thought that the saying, 'Kick the Bucket', which refers to a person dying, was a very English, slang statement.
