I have a friend that works at the local Salvation Army Store, and she tells me, that many times they find money.
Quite often, older seniors will hide their money in their home, because they either dont trust banks, or just want to be able to get at their cash when they need it.
The problem is, that many times these seniors will pass away, and then their families are left to clean out their homes, and are not aware that granny was hiding money in the home. They may check the most obvious spots, such as her purse, wallet or drawers, or freezer, but many time they have found well hidden spots!
One of the most common spots, are the toes of shoes. No one thinks to stick their hands in someone's shoes. My friend has found balled up paper money in the toes of shoes, and judging by how many pairs of shoes the average person has, they could hide a fortune!
Books are next.. They quite often put single bills in the pages of books, and unless someone knows the right book, this can be a great spot for that "rainy day money".
You can also purchase food cans that look super realistic, but are empty, and you can put your money or treasures in them. My own mother has a soup can, that looks like any other soup can. I wonder how many soup cans end up at the food bank with money in them?
In between towels in a linen closet, no one thinks to look there. My own father, hid money in the lining of his old winter coat that was hanging nicely in the closet.
My mother let me know some of her hiding spots, so if that unthinkable day comes, we will not be throwing out her money, unless she wanted it donated. We found over 300 dollars in books after my dad passed away. Every time he went to the bank, he would put a few dollars for "rainy day" money in his books.
Sometimes when we would visit, he would disappear into the living room where there was a HUGE bookcase of books, and come back with a few dollars for the grandchildren. It was like a game to him.. so take some ideas from these creative seniors, and you will find a great hiding place.. just don't forget where you put it!
