Many new members ask me how to write successfully for Helium. It's a dilemma because while they are accustomed to writing in their own style, and individual style is important, fitting the market for which they are writing is equally important. Putting tips in some kind of order, I would say the areas that learners need to look at in order to maximize their use of helium are these:
*Research and knowledge
*Layout and content
*Style of writing
*Deciding whether the work is testimony or knowledge
*Deciding whether the work is creative or knowledge based
Research and knowledge.
Helium is a great place for getting your thinking process working. Here, faced with a topic, the writer has to question themselves on whether they know enough about the topic to write a fluent article. By sketching an outline of what they want to write, they will recognize more easily where gaps in their knowledge exist, and can research those areas that will make their writing stronger and the information their article contains more valuable.
Here, I tend to ask myself what someone would need to know had they searched on the Internet and landed on this particular topic. Let's take an example. If someone was looking for the topic of whooping cough in babies, chances are that they want to find some solution to a problem, and although it is nice to know other writers have had similar experience, the elements that would interest them would be:
*Overcoming the problem.
*Tips to help ease the discomfort
*When to visit the doctor
*Where to go for help
This is just a small example, though the point I am trying to make is that they don't want to land on a page on the Internet where someone is wailing about Johnny having a cough. They want answers. Treating each subject in this manner, and creating a list of relevant points, even from the mom point of view, what your article could do is give reassurance and advice to people that are experiencing the same experiences that you have described, never forgetting that at the end of the day, the professionals should be consulted.
Layout and content.
Here, the mistake that many writers make is not to check if there are spaces between paragraphs, or whether their article has a strong opening paragraph that invites the reader to read more. Constructing a beginning, middle and end, in small easily readable paragraphs will get better ratings because it does not appear in the rating box as one mass of words. Although many articles without separate paragraphs have a lot of
