My son Brandon has ADD among a few other disorders; he was diagnosed at the age of 6. There are several symptoms of ADD, and it is often miss diagnosed for other disorders. Such as OCD ,Bipolar, Post Traumatic stress syndrome and so on. Here is a list of obvious signs you are sure to notice if indeed your child has ADD or ADHD . They can not concentrate on one task they jump from one task to another. It seems as though they are in another world when being spoken to (you find your self repeating things over and over). They often misplace things almost as soon as they pick it up. The other symptoms are they are constantly fidgeting with their hands or feet or other objects. They will talk excessively often fumbling with there words. They don't seem to be able to make friends there own age or they can not keep friends. They will blurt out things or interrupt or answer a question before the question is even finished being asked. They will struggle with homework and every day tasks that normally should only take a half an hour for them it is more like four hours. And that is with you sitting there constantly reminding them what they are supposed to be doing. Some children with ADD often feel lesser than their peers and will put there selves down calling them self's dumb etc. They also will act out in anger or sadness if they are around a lot of stress. They are over stimulated which means they are more sensitive to all things around them causing them to become enraged
/ depressed if in a stressful situation. If your child has any or all of theses symptoms I would seek medical consultation with your family doctor and possibly a psychiatrist. I hope this information helps someone/ everyone and answers all of the questions parents have. I wish when my son was diagnosed I had the knowledge that I have now it would have been allot easier. The sooner you find out the better they will do as well as the rest of the family. If your child has ADD or ADHD it will be a rocky road but there are a lot of resources out there to help. And allot of coping tools for your child to help them feel so normalcy.
