Short stories: Self-improvement

SECRET CRUSH

It was almost a decade into their marriage. With a well established better half and a brave little daughter in their canopy, life had been pretty generous with her. Now in her thirties, maturing into a women just a couple of years back, Aashna was getting to be a much more confident woman compared to her old self.

That day gazing at her striking eyes, she couldn't believe how beautiful she was. She even

gave herself a loving pinch on the cheek admiring her perfect face. How could she have missed giving herself time. Amidst keeping the house spotless and keeping the pantries well stocked and answering to every small whimsies and fancies of her husband and child, she had ignored another person totally. That was herself.

It was time to give back to herself. She deserved some pampering, she thought. Some caressing. Somebody to take care of her for a change. So that day she set out to work,a whole new self assuring person. Her stride spoke a whole different language. Every curve on her body showed off her newly acquired pride. Even her dear husband gave her a second glance that day. Little did he know he was looking at an entirely different woman.

The confidence accompanied her right to her office doors, when she felt a sudden bash of weakness in her knees.Something she saw gave her goose bumps. Her heart raced. An involuntary smile made its way up her pink lips. She new she had felt this feeling before. Back in her teenage years. When every time a boy passed by her, her endorphins took a rise. Every time her hands brushed with a charming classmate of hers, she shut her eyes tight not to stare back at him. And the times that charming boy came face to face she couldn't help but flash that
pink lip smile. Yes! she knew that feeling of butterflies in the stomach.

What was it she saw? In an office full of women, was a handsome young male. She was not single. Then why that feeling she could hardly figure. He was holding the door open for her. Something which was never done to her. Not in the recent past. She blinked away from him. Stopping herself from turning back at him for another glance. She found out from her colleagues, he was going to be there for another month. As the day progressed, she had come face to face with him and hardly said a word. What happened to that confidence she had that morning. A saga of trying to be a whole new woman and all. She decided to at-least smile at him next time she saw him around.

So, the next day she came to work well prepared
