What are the tangible causes of depression?

What are the physical causes of depression?
The Wikipedia Online Dictionary defines Depression as, a lowering, in particular a reduction in a biological variable or the function of an organ, antonym of elevation.
This organ that they are referring to could be the human brain. The operation of the human brain since the dawn of time has been a mystery. Doctors have tried to figure out how this organ operates for centuries. This article has no real scientific bases, just a thought and a possiblility.

Since the dictionary defines depression as a lowering of the biological variable, could it be said that we have the power to do that lowering. The more we dwell on a negative happening, (i.e.: loss of job, loss of loved one, etc.) the more we get depressed, by the clinical meaning.

But what if we didn't focus on the negative. There isn't anything that can be done about it anyway.

If you lost your job, then get another one. You were looking for a job when you found that one. If you have lost a loved one what can you do about that. They passed away. They have gone to be with their maker and have been totally healed of the affliction that they died from. They are happier than any of us can be anyway. So be happy for them.

So, if you're now not going to focus on the negative what are we supposed to focus on? Well let's try this. Think about something you like, a dream that you would like to accomplish. Then focus your every thought on that. The human brain is like a sponge. What ever it sees or hears it will believe. Whether it is positive or negative.

Focusing on the negative is what causes the depression that we are talking about. Thinking this way causes the mind to produce chemicals that cause various organs to begin to fail and the health starts to crash.

Focusing on the dream, your desires will confuse the sub-conscience mind. The mind keeps telling you the negative thought is the truth. But you keep telling it that the dream is real. Eventually the brain will believe the constant bombardment of the positive.

As the movie "The Secret" indicates, the more we think about something, profess it, and believe it the universe aligns itself so that the event will happen. People that you don't even know will appear and things will begin to happen to make this incident a reality.

Back in the 50's a recording was made called "The Strangest Secret" by Earl Nightingale. In that recording Mr. Nightingale tells us that the problem with people today is that we just don't think. Strangely enough that is also the theme of "The Secret." Even today this recording has some truth.

The biggest problem with today's way of thinking is the faith most of us have in the system of science. In some articles the cause of the depression is unknown. Well, this could just be the cause.
