The pleasant year around weather along with the variety of things to do makes SAN DIEGO an ideal vacation destination for the boomer generation. Whether you are in San Diego for a month of a weekend, you will have plenty to do to keep you busy. Here are some suggestions for activities during your stay:
HIKING: Whether you want an easy walk on a flat surface or something a little more challenging, San Diego has it. A good year-round choice is the Razor Point Trail at TORREY PINES. This is 1.3 miles round trip, and covers an elevation gain of about 250 feet. Park in the Torrey Pines State Beach Reserve area off of Torrey Pines Road.
Another excellent choice is the BATIQUITOS LAGOON loop, excellent for birdwatching. This 2.5 mile hike can be shortened to your liking. The best way to get there is to take I-5 to Poinsettia exit and go East. Turn right on Batiquitos Drive and head down the hill toward the lagoon. Turn right on Gabbiano Lane, and drive to the end and park in the 6-car lot. Bring your camera, you may see some endangered bird species, including the elegant tern or the California least tern.
VISITING MUSEUMS: Get your fill or art and culture at BALBOA PARK. Museums include the Museum of Photographic Arts, the Museum of San Diego History, the San Diego Automotive Museum, the San Diego Museum of Man, and the Veterans Museum and Memorial Center. Balboa Park is an excellent place to have a picnic lunch.
GOLF: Torrey Pines Golf course is home to the annual Buick Invitational and February and the 2008 U.S. Open. Affordable places for visitors to play golf include the Torrey Pines Golf Course, Balboa Park Golf Course, Mission Bay Golf Course, and the Coronado Golf Course. Coronado has been ranked as the Best Value in Southern California by greenskeeper.org for the past four years.
SPA: San Diego is a great place to get pampered! World-renowned Spas include the La Costa Resort, Four Seasons Aviara, or the Lodge at Torrey Pines. Get a massage, manicure, or facial and feel great!
DINING: San Diego has plenty of excellent choices for romantic and elegant dining, whether you want sushi or a Sunday brunch buffet. San Diego is one of the best places in the country for authentic Mexican food. You will find plenty of options in Little Italy, La Jolla, Carlsbad, or Solana Beach. Many restaurants offer breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, and some are even right on the water.
